Nursing Week 2012
May 7, 2012 - May 13, 2012
Our definition of a nurse : a person trained to look after the sick and infirm. Who does that include? Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Registered Nurses (RN); Continuing Care Aides (CCA) or Special Care Aides (SCA) and Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPN)…plus a whole lot more!
Our aim is to break down barriers that exist between different nursing groups to build a state of harmony and equality within the healthcare team; to that end, we need to communicate, work together, recognize each others unique skills, and, above all else, respect each other. We all do some form of ‘team nursing’ because the reality is that none of us works alone. To achieve this, we need to be able to look beyond our differences and focus on what makes us similar; it all boils down to the fundamental purpose we all share as healthcare providers: to strive for the best possible outcomes for our patients, clients and residents.
Once again, the Nursing Care Committee, on behalf of SEIU-West wishes all of our members on the front-line of healthcare a “Happy Nursing Week”!
Al Chaisson, Chair of the NCC.
