Hello Sisters and Brothers,
After the last bargaining session did not produce the results we were looking for, SEIU-West members employed at Elmwood escalated job action with the first full withdrawal of services on May 19 and 20, 2018. The Union bargaining team and the Employer’s representatives continued to communicate throughout trying to reach a deal.
On the 22nd of May, the parties reached agreement on a proposal to present to the members for ratification (vote). The Employer has agreed to offer a four percent (4%) wage increase effective the date of signing and a $750.00 signing bonus, pro-rated for part time and casual employees. The contract will expire on the 31st of March, 2019 so the Union and the Employer will be back at the bargaining table in a little less than a year to continue to negotiate changes to the collective agreement and future wage increases.
The Union will be holding ratification meetings at 12:00 pm and 6:30 p.m. on Friday May, 25, 2018 at the SEIU-West offices located at 200 – 747 46th Street West in Saskatoon.
It is important that everyone who can casts their vote so we are sure the wishes of the membership carry the day.
The Union recommends that the membership vote in favor of this offer. This is a victory in the struggle to achieve fair wages and working conditions for Group Home Employees. The solidarity of the membership through this negotiation has demonstrated to the Employer that they cannot ignore our members say they will not settle without a wage increase.
