Spotlight on Support Workers: Shirley

Spotlight on Support Workers is a way for you to get to know the hardworking people – mainly women – who provide support to Elmwood Group Homes (EGH) residents who are unable to fully care for themselves.

Shirley is a Support Worker at EGH who has her Caregiver Certificate, transferring, lifting and repositioning (TLR) safely, and Comprehensive Personal Planning training. Hear what she has to say in her own words: Shirly

I view the residents I care for as my friends and family. As a Support Worker, I meet their needs such as personal care, cooking, cleaning recreation, and help with their behavioural needs as well.

The lack of a wage increase combined with the rising cost of living has caused my family to make every dollar stretch further than we can handle. We’re making ends meet on a day-to-day basis. Without a pay increase, it makes me feel unvalued for our hard work.

Take a stand for fairness with Support Workers like Shirley – send a letter of support today!
