Greetings Sisters and Brothers,
Yesterday, SEIU-West members at Samaritan Place voted on what the Employer termed their final, last offer. Your bargaining team did not make a recommendation about the Employer’s offer as we wanted you all to make your own decision about the Employer’s proposal. We did promise to release the result of that vote as soon as possible after we counted the ballot.
Last evening, your Unit Chair posted those results on the Unit’s Facebook page and your decision was loud and clear. You voted overwhelmingly to reject this offer. The majority of you, the members, cast a ballot and every single one of you voted ‘NO!”
This morning, we contacted the Employer and advised them of the result of the vote. We requested dates to resume our negotiations. It is our hope that the Employer will now give serious consideration to the essential issues you have told us must be addressed in an acceptable manner. It is also our hope we can work together to reach a fair agreement, rather than having to disrupt the workplace along with the lives of you and your residents through job action. We will continue to keep you informed of our progress.
In the meantime, we want to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for your support of your Bargaining Team and each other. The vote this week clearly shows that the Care Partners, Life Enhancement Guides and LPNs believe that, “United, We Stand Strong!” Your solidarity truly demonstrates the heart and essence of the trade union movement. Your message rings loud and clear, and your Bargaining Team will ensure it is heard.
Thank you all very much.
