We Provide Your Health Care – Help Us Secure Ours
After much discussion and a lot of pressure from our members and our union, the Prairie North Regional Health Authority and SAHO have asked to meet with SEIU-West and our MLAC member bargaining committee on the 26th of April to explore ways to resolve the current bargaining impasse. SAHO and Health Region have stated that they have a proposal to present to our committee that they hope will address our members’ bottom line. They have acknowledged that our message has come through loud and clear. We are hopeful the result of our meeting is a fair and reasonable tentative proposal we can bring to you for your consideration. Your bargaining committee knows your demands and we will work as hard as we can to make sure they are met. Stay tuned for further updates.
In respect to essential services, we will be sharing our formal submission to resolve the outstanding issues with the Health Region and SAHO this week. While we continue to agree that the services you provide are vital to the well-being of the community, we do not agree that they met the legal definition of essential and we do not agree an essential services agreement is appropriate, as such services can be maintained while securing our members’ right to take effective job action. We will keep you posted on any further developments as they occur.
The press coverage we have generated about the stand you have taken and the advertising we have run have surely had an effect on the Region’s attitude toward you, the members, and what it’s going to take to get a Collective Agreement. As of April 15, your supporters have sent 112 letters to the CEO of the PNHR, the PNHR Authority Board Member (Meadow Lake) and the Deputy Minister of Health (MOH). Due to sheer volume, the Deputy MOH has begun to respond via his own personalized letter. We ask that you continue to ask your family, friends and neighbours to submit a letter of support for MLAC members at http://canadawest.seiu.org/page/speakout/support-meadow-lake-
As members of the health care team, we know that you deserve recognition for the services you provide to your community.
Your Bargaining Committee appreciates your continued solidarity and we thank you for your determination and your support for our efforts to bargain a fair and reasonable Collective Agreement.
