Bargaining Update no. 2 – Extendicare

Your SEIU-West Bargaining committee is currently reviewing the final bargaining proposal package in order to have a document to present to Extendicare. These proposals were drafted based on the members’ responses to the bargaining questionnaires.

In preliminary discussions with Extendicare regarding scheduling dates for bargaining, they have indicated that they are currently busy with bargaining for their Alberta units.

We have tentative dates for the first week of March and have confirmed April 4 – 8 for bargaining.

Your union, SEIU-West, has been contacted by the media regarding the status of bargaining. We haven’t shared any information except to indicate that Extendicare was not part of the SAHO (Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations) negotiations and we are preparing to bargain with Extendicare. During the process of SAHO bargaining, SEIU-West had shared those bargaining updates with our Extendicare members for information purposes only – to keep the members updated on how those negotiations were proceeding.

Much like the provincial negotiations with SAHO, language around Call-in will be an issue. Your bargaining committee has taken the position that full retroactivity will be paid, despite the length of time it has taken to get to the bargaining table. You deserve no less!

In solidarity,

Your SEIU-West bargaining committee
